Green and White Base

Welcome to year 2.

Although we have only been back for 6 days we have already learned a lot!

In Literacy, we have been learning to re-tell the story ‘Augustus and his smile’ by Catherine Rayner. We have been using actions to help us learn all of the wonderful language in the story so we can begin to use a wider vocabulary in our own writing.

As well as this, we have been learning how to correctly punctuate our sentences with a capital letter and full stop; make our sentences more interesting and exciting by using expanded noun phrases; create a magpie wall with powerful verbs and learn how to use an apostrophe for contractions.

Our next step will be to innovate the story of ‘Augustus and his smile’ by changing some of the key aspects with our own ideas.

In Maths, we have been learning all about the properties of number. So far we have learnt to locate numbers on 0−100 beaded line and 1−100 square; compare pairs of numbers and find a number in between and some of us have been learning how to partition numbers into their tens and ones.

Our next step will be to know  our number bonds to 10 and begin to learn related subtraction facts; know multiple of 10 number bonds to 100, learn bonds to 20, rehearse number bonds to 10 and 20 using stories.

We have begun our exciting new topic on SUPERHEROES. We have begun by reading the story ‘ George saves the world by lunchtime’ by Jo Readman. Through reading this story we are going to learn how to be ‘real life’ superheroes by learning how and why is it important to RECYCLE, RE-USE and REDUCE.

Kind regards,

Year 2 Team
